The Center conducts and promotes injury control research, gathers and disseminates information on injuries, provides training for health professionals, and informs public and community leaders on injury control issues.

History

CIRCL was established in July 1992. In September, 1995 we became one of 12 centers in the country to receive official designation as an Injury Control Research Center by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Mission and Theme

Our mission is to reduce the occurrence, severity and consequences of injury and violence through the development and conduct of multi-disciplinary research and educational and training activities.

Our current theme emphasizes neurological injuries occurring to or impacting on women and children.

We also facilitate the translation of research into injury control policies and programs for prevention, acute care and rehabilitation, working collaboratively across the University and the Region.

Support for CIRCL

CIRCL is supported in part by grant# CCR323155 from the National Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, National Center for Injury Prevention & Control.

Donations may be made through PittGiving.

CIRCL is a member of the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research. "Investing in Research Saves Lives and Money."
