Webinar Help

We strongly suggest that, a few days before the seminar, you check that your computer hardware, network and firewall policies allow the software to download and operate. Firewall and administrative access privileges are the two main reasons new users have problems.

System Requirements

This seminar will use a multi-way interactive multimedia broadcast over the Internet using Elluminate Live! and your Java enabled browser. This application supports Mac, Windows, and Unix computers.

Watch a 5 minute overview about how to use this software.

Elluminate uses "Voice-over-IP" (internet voice). You will need a soundcard, speakers or headset, and optionally a microphone installed in your computer. If you do not have a microphone, you can send questions to the presenter via text chat.

If you participating in a room with multiple people, connect one computer to a mic, speakers and an LCD projector or large monitor. Pass around the mic so others can talk.

Installing and Configuring the Software

Follow these steps a few days before the seminar to ensure that you can participate. These steps may take from 5-20 minutes, depending on your Internet connection and computer speed.

  1. If this is the first time you'll use Elluminate Live, download and install JAVA Webstart software. Please click here and follow the instructions. You can close the window after the software is loaded. You may also delete the Java Webstart icon placed by default on your desktop.
  2. Once you have the Java software setup, perform a system audio receive check in a test classroom or use the audio wizard in a test classroom. This will load and start Elluminate Live!. Use any temporary sign-in name when it asks. During this test session, use the FILE menu in Elluminate Live! to set your connection speed. After this check, close these windows and the Elluminate Live! application window.
  3. Consider attending the vendor's brief live Elluminate Live! demo, Mon-Fri, between 9AM and 7 PM EDT (GMT-5, sign-in required). The demo helps you become familiar with the collaboration software, and check your settings. You can also sign up for a free live demonstration or event.

Spanish Version

Our installation of Elluminate live supports a Spanish version. Access to the translated interface is controlled by the region setting on the user's computer.

To view the Spanish interface on Windows XP, change your language options to Spanish using the following steps (other operating systems will have similar settings):

  1. Go to the Windows Control Panel
  2. Select "Regional and Language Options"
  3. Select "Spanish"
  4. Launch the Elluminate Live! session. If your session has language translation enabled, menus and dialog boxes will be in Spanish.

Registering for a Webinar

There may or may not be formal registration. Please check the seminar description for further information. Usually we ask for an RSVP so we know who plans to attend.

Participating Live in a Webinar

Visit the seminar page onthe day of the webinar or check the email invitation and click the "join" button shortly before the time the seminar is scheduled to begin. Webinar space is limited and available on a first-come basis.

The vClass icon link to join a Webinar begins to work about 30 minutes before the seminar start time. At that time, click the Elluminate Live! link for that lecture to open a sign-in page. Enter your first and last name.

The first time you log in to an Elluminate Live! Webinar, you may be prompted to download Java Web Start (or OpenJNLP for Mac users). You only need to do this the first time you use Elluminate Live!.

Listening to a Recorded Webinar

Elluminate Live! seminars may be recorded for future playback. If you installed Elluminate Live!, no additional software software is needed to play recordings. Recorded seminars are accessed on the Past Seminar page.

Help/Troubleshooting

If you are behind a firewall or do not have software installation (administrator) privileges for your computer, you may need to the help of your IT department, perhaps requiring a few days notice ahead of time. Once the software is installed, technical support should not be needed.

If your IT department wishes to validate these links, they may call our Center at 412/802-6500.
